I am loosing my connection often

A good place to start is in the basic configurations for your Internet access. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double-click Internet Options. Click the Connections tab.

In the Dial-Up Settings field, CTC should have (Default) next to it. Always Dial My Default Connection should be marked in the circles below.

Click Settings. Make sure your username and password are inserted in the appropriate blanks. Click Properties. This should have the corresponding phone number to your local dial-up area. These numbers can be obtained in the Quick Reference section of the Technical Support home page here. Unless you are dialing outside of the local area there should be no check in the Dial using country code and area code box.

In the Connect Using section at the bottom of the window, is your modem. Click the Configure button. In the Maximum Speed, select 57600. Click OK.

Click the Server Types or Networking tab. Dial-up server is PPP. The boxes to be checked on here are Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP. No others need to be checked.

Click the TCP/IP Settings button. First selection at the top should be Server-assigned IP address. For Domain Name Servers, click Specify Name Server Addresses. Use the following:

Primary/Preferred DNS: 137.118.1.32
Secondary/Alternat DNS: 137.118.1.33

Leave the WINS boxes blank. Both boxes at the bottom should be checked. Click OK. Click OK on all other windows. Close the Control Panel. Click Start, Shutdown/Turn Off, Restart. Let the computer re-boot and try your connection again. Other settings can cause constant disconnects. One is the Hang Up setting in Outlook Express. To disable the Hang Up option, refer to the next set of instructions.

To disable Hang Up After Sending And Receiving in Outlook Express: Open Outlook Express. Click Tools. Click Options. Click the Connection tab. Remove any check mark in the box for Hang up after sending and receiving. Click Apply. Click OK. Close Outlook Express. Restart.
