My computer won't connect to the InternetThere are many factors than can cause a computer to fail to connect. This can be attributed to phone line quality, splitters(on the phone line, not power supply), no dial tone in the line, a modem not configured correctly, a failed modem, a misconnected line, or a damaged phone line from the computer to the wall jack.As a precaution, check to see that there are no kinks or tears or broken wires on the phone line you are using. The line should be no more than 10 feet in length if possible. No Dial Tone: Check your line connection. As a test, insert a phone in the prefered jack for the computer. See if you hear dial tone on the phone. (If you hear no tone, have the lines inspected in your home or use a different jack in your home). If you hear tone remove the phone. Make sure the phone line for your computer is securely connected in the wall jack and on the computer. When you insert the plug into the wall and the computer, you should here it snap in firmly. Make sure the line is connected to the proper jack on the computer. It should be in the one labeled Line or have an icon that looks like a telephone jack or plug. One you have verified that everything is connected, turn on the computer and try to connect. If you still get a "No Dial Tone" error, it may be a good idea to see if your modem is still in working condition or if it is properly installed and has the latest driver updates. Check with your computer support for information on modem configuration and drivers. |
